March 6, 2023 | Student volunteers join FOFW work day

On Friday, March 3, Friends of the Fountain and Walk had its monthly work day on The Circle and Fountain Walk a day earlier than the usual first Saturday of the month. That’s because a group of young volunteers from neighboring Saint Mary’s College High School were able to come out that day and lend our usual crew a hand.
Nine students under the supervision of Saint Mary’s service project leader Mike Sommers showed up and tackled various cleanup, weeding and other chores, making quick work of everything asked of them. The photo of them here, shot just prior to starting work, belies the enthusiasm they brought to their labors.
Things went so well that Mike Sommers suggested S.M. students might come out regularly to volunteer, which would be gratefully accepted.
If you are connected to a school or organization that might be interested in turning out a crew for our monthly work day, please contact FOFW at fountainandwalk@gmail.com. Gloves, tools and safety vests are all provided — and maybe donuts, too. Or if you are an individual that would like to take part, you are welcome, too. Just drop us a line and we’ll add you to our volunteer email list for reminders and updates.
Weeding and raking is not for everyone, of course. If you’d like to volunteer or get involved with FOFW in some other way, please let us know.
Thanks again, Saint Mary’s.
