December 1, 2022 | Fountain at The Circle Flowing Again
1 Comment | Categorised in: Fountain News & UpdatesFriends and neighbors:
After a shutdown of about two weeks, the Fountain at The Circle is back up and running,
The fountain had been emptied and shut off to allow for the installation of new LED lights in the main pool. The lights being replaced had begun developing issues that caused short circuits from time to time, and were ultimately deemed not repairable. Those lights used halogen bulbs that burned hotter and used more energy than the new energy-efficient LED lights. The repair project also included other new electrical equipment in the vault and new conduit underground.
As you can see in the photos here, the new lights show off the fountain as well or better than the old ones.
Many thanks to the City of Berkeley Parks and Public Works departments for their speedy work in getting these FOFW-funded lights installed. Particular thanks to Tom Salkowitz, the Electrical Supervisor for Public Works, and his crew, who helped make sure the light replacement would be done in time for our volunteers to decorate the fountain and center island for the holidays. Those lights and greenery will go up Saturday, Dec. 3, and be on every morning and evening through early January.
And as always, thanks to the generous donors to FOFW, whose support helps make repairs and improvements to the fountain, nearby Fountain Walk and the landmark area around The Circle possible.
Here’s to a joyous and light-filled holiday season for us all.
